Pseudothrombocytopenia is usually associated with anticoagulant ethylene diaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). The platelet clumping that occurs in EDTA-dependent pseudothrombocytopenia (EDPT) can sometimes be prevented by the use of other anticoagulants such as heparin or sodium citrate.
